Get your Samsung Galaxy Nexus at the ready, because the long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is here. As was promised following its unveiling at Google I/O, users of both the Galaxy Nexus and the company’s new Nexus 7 tablet will now be able to enjoy Jellybean.
The Google Nexus 7 tablet is positioned as the flagbearer for Google’s newest mobile OS iteration, but as is customary in major Android releases, the previous year’s chosen piece of Google hardware gets first dibs on making the jump too. In this case, it’s that Samsung Galaxy Nexus that’ll be making the most of this new update in the coming days.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus launched at Google I/O 2011 and showed off a multitude of features like Face Unlock, an integrated panorama mode on its camera and the NFC-based Android Beam, but now users will be able to make use of some of the most notable Jelly Bean features such as “Project Butter”, designed to improve fluidity when navigating the UI, expandable notifications which can provide extra information than with ICS without leaving the notifications pane and Google Now, the adaptive search service which utilises user habits, location data and time to predict what it is the user is looking for.
The Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update is available from today but will take some time to make it to your device, having said that Motorola Xoom and Google Nexus S users will have to wait even longer
