The bodies of the 2012 iMacs are made of aluminium, resulting in some fairly lightweight computers. However, it all depends on the size you choose. There are 21.5-inch and 27-inch models, weighing roughly 5.7kg and 9.5kg respectively.

Both sizes of iMac use a top-quality IPS panel, which is the same tech used in the iPad 4, and its predecessors. However, the screen resolutions are different.

The 21.5-inch iMac uses Full HD 1,920 x 1,020 pixel res, while the larger 27-inch model has a resolution of 1,560 x 1,440 pixels. Both will look pretty special in the flesh, as Apple has a reputation for producing some of the best computer screens around.

iMac 2012 Specs

All the new iMac 2012 models come with 8GB of RAM, although the larger 27-inch versions are more easily expandable thanks to two additional, user-accessible memory slots. The baseline models all feature 1TB of storage too.

However, there are other options. The higher-end models can upgrade to a 3TB hard drive, 768GB of flash storage or one of Apple's new Fusion drives. These pair together a 128GB SSD and a 1TB/3TB hard drive for the perfect blend of storage and performance. It's nothing new, but it is a good idea.

Looking further into the power of these new iMacs, we need to split them into four models, rather than just the 21.5-inch/27-inch divide. The lowest-end model is the 21.5-inch model that sells for £1,099. This has a 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor and GeForce GT 640M graphics card. Spend an extra £150 and you can get a more powerful 2.9GHz Core i5 processor and the GeForce GT 650M card.

iMac 2012 Price

If you can afford even more moolah, there are two separate 27-inch models. The £1,499 version has a 2.9GHz Core i5 processor and GeForce GT 660M graphics card, while the big daddy £1,699 model features a 3.2GHz Core i5 processor and GeForce GTX 675M graphics.

Most of these models offer upgrades too, including more powerful graphics and larger hard drives.

Features common to all the new 2012 iMacs include an SDXC memory card slot, Four USB 3.0 ports plus integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. All iMacs come with a Wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse.

AGNEE - First Indian made Tablet from Karbonn

Following the launch of three smartphones last weekend, Karbonn Mobiles today launched Agnee, it’s 3G tablet, completely made in India.

The tablet is powered by Qualcomm Technologies Inc’s SnapDragon processor and has been designed and developed by Karbonn in collaboration with Innominds Technologies – the USP of the tablet being its iCare content platform, which will provide education solutions and a platform for a comprehensive and collaborative platform for students and faculty.

“Karbonn Mobiles is envisioned to introduce innovative technology across the globe. We are pleased to announce Karbonn AGNEE, the first Made in India 3G tablet which will surely take a step forward in making engaged mobility solutions a reality for the Indian consumers,” Pradeep Jain, managing director, Karbonn Mobiles said at the release event.

The first variation of the table to be launched will be the Agnee L model, which is the most basic. The Agnee L will have a 7 inch display with a 4.0 Android OS – which the manufacturers say can be updated as and when Android updates. The table will have two cameras – in the front and at the rear. The front facing camera has a resolution of 1.3 MP front. The tablet will be priced below Rs 10,000.


Anil Katakam, Executive Vice President, Innominds Technologies said, “We have taken Qualcomm’s reference design and built it from scratch. This tablet is a collaboration between Innominds and Karbonn.””

Aside from iCare, the tablet’s content platform, which will support both rich text and HTML, the tablet will also support 22 Indian languages.

“This is not the 3G dongle enabled tablet – it’s 3G is both voice and data enabled tablet. It is going to be customised to the Indian experience in terms of the apps and experience. That’s what’s going to be different. Ours will also be the first tablet to support 22 Indian languages,” added Katakam.

The apps for the tablet will be broadly based on education, entertainment and general interests like newspapers, reading, usage and directory related services. And while some apps will be free of cost, many will have free trial periods which will eventually become paid apps.

Karbonn Mobiles plans to launch the product in the next three to four weeks – hoping to ride on the festive fever by aiming for a pre-Diwali release.

According to a CyberMedia Research (CMR) India Quarterly Media Tablets Market Review, as of the second quarter of 2012, close to 90 vendors launched new tablets in the market, with the average price of a tablet having dropped to a little above Rs 13,000 from Rs 26,000 in Q1 of 2012. How to Enable 3D on the HTC EVO 3D and Evo V whenever you want

For those of us who own an HTC EVO 3D, we tend to be hit, from time to time, with questions about our investments. Questions like, “why did Sprint take over a year to release something that was ready to go way before?” or “Will we be getting JB like the other devices that are getting it?” However, a question that more often than not plagues my mind as an owner of this device is, “Where else can I use the 3D display?” Being able to watch a few movies and play certain games in 3D is cool, but there should certainly be other things that can be done to take advantage of the panel technology—like a 3D interface, 3D wallpaper, and so on.

If you are thinking about these possible uses and more, here is a nice little app that will allow you to use 3D at all times during normal operation. Essentially, the app changes a value in the 3D panel controller, which turns it on and leaves it in that state. Due to rotation obviously being an issue with this (remember how the camera always complains whenever you try to take pictures while holding the phone vertically?), the app allows you to turn the 3D feature on either for landscape or portrait mode. The only one thing that can be somewhat cumbersome is that this app will render your light sensor useless and will boost and lock your brightness at 100%. This effect will go away as soon as you turn off the 3D functionality through the app.
So, if the idea of having actual 3D wallpaper makes you salivate, make sure that you try out this simple yet fulfilling app and leave some feedback for the dev.
